The client requested high-specification audio for the space, and as such, GVAV selected professional-standard products with exceptional audio quality. To fulfil this requirement, a d&b audiotechnik system was installed (as in the Royal Albert Hall), including high performance loudspeakers, subwoofers, and amplifiers around the lecture theatre. For the hearing impaired, an Ampetronic hearing induction loop system was also implemented.

The University of Bristol is a red brick Russell Group research university. GVAV have a longstanding relationship with the University, implementing AV in a number of university buildings over the past 35 years.
The University of Bristol’s MyWorld creative hub was awarded £30 million from the UK Research and Innovation’s (UKRI) Strength in Places Fund (SIPF), with a further £16m coming from an alliance of more than 30 industry and academic partners joining forces in the five-year scheme. To facilitate this partnership, the University required a suitable venue to host large events. To support this, and as part of an ongoing digital upgrade across campus to bring all teaching spaces in line with the University standard, the University commissioned GVAV for a full audio-visual upgrade in the Pugsley Lecture Theatre, with additional support for lecture capture and hybrid learning.
High-Quality Projection
For maximum visual impact and accessibility in the 200-seat lecture theatre, a dual projection system was implemented. Comprising of two 4000mm x 2250mm Screen International Electric Projection Screens, and two Epson 12000 ANSI lumens laser projectors.
Easy-To-Use Lecturer Solution
To support lecturers or presenters using the space, an easy-to-use but high-quality teaching solution was essential. A TOP-TEC Gemini 2200 Duet height adjustable lectern was selected to house the relevant teaching tools and equipment, complete with illuminated University of Bristol branding. The large worktop area provides ample space for the WolfVision document camera, LG monitors, Extron touchpanel, Audio Technica Gooseneck microphone and Sennheiser lapel and hand-held microphone systems. Also, within the projection booth an audio mixer was installed to facilitate live mixing alongside an additional set of supplementary microphones
Extron control was implemented across the lecture theatre in line with University of Bristol standard user interface. An Extron video matrix enables full flexibility and selection of multiple content sources to be shown in any combination on the projection screens.
For lecture capture, hybrid teaching and events, seven supremely flexible Panasonic 4K PTZ cameras were mounted around the lecture theatre, providing high-quality coverage of the entire space. These were fed into a mixture of lectern-based capture cards, recorders and a Broadcast grade Vision mixer positioned in the projection booth. Additional SDI/HDMI tie lines were added to facilitate further connectivity for portable camcorders.
The upgraded space provides an excellent venue for teaching and events at the University, utilising high quality but easy-to-use AV for an exceptional user experience.
“Working with GVAV as closely as we do gave us a massive advantage when approaching this project. As this is a general teaching space it needed our familiar user interface and layout for room users while allowing more advanced control to those who require it, as well as being supportable day to day by our in-house technical team. The relationship we have with GVAV meant this was fully understood and built into the design from the start of the project, resulting in a very powerful but easy to use system that ticks all the boxes for the project requirements.”
